Active Transport Partners (ATP) is a boutique consultancy purpose-built to develop and deliver active transport initiatives and outcomes.
Founded by John Posthoorn, Active Transport Partners leverages Johns specialised technical expertise and vast project management experience across the roads infrastructure and engineering sector in Australia.
Being of Dutch heritage, John had early exposure to cycling as a primary method of transport and understood the great value of a cycling culture and policy and planning in urban environments.
Now as a chartered engineer, with over 15 years’ experience in roads engineering and project management (including establishing and managing boutique engineering firm JPE Group), John has identified a strong need to develop the active transport space to support the human, environmental, social and economic sustainability of Australian communities.
It was through his role at JPE that John quickly realised the need for a targeted approach to deliver active transport outcomes. John has seen firsthand how compromises are made on behalf of active transport initiatives unless there is dedication and persistence to achieve an active transport outcome.
Created as a specialised and focused branch of JPE, ATP’s’ purpose is to better the community by delivering active transport projects. Using the specialised expertise from our team of talented, reputable, and experienced engineers and educators, Active Transport Partners aims to encourage healthy, active, and sustainable communities through the provision of easily accessible and safe cycling and pedestrian network solutions, and community education initiatives.
Our team has the experience and capability to give your active transport project the best chance of being realised in constrained environments. It is our passion for active transport, and experience in infrastructure delivery, that make Active Transport Partners your ideal partner in delivering your active transport goals.
Everyone should feel like they have a safe option to cycle or walk within their community. Children should be able to cycle or walk to and from school in a safe environment.
The benefits of these modes of travel are diverse and far-reaching, including reducing carbon emissions and climate change, encouraging social and community connection, improving road safety and reversing the trend of inactivity. It is through active transport outcomes that these benefits can be realised.
We believe that Australia’s transportation infrastructure needs to evolve to prioritise micro-mobility and focus on the safety, sustainability, and efficiency of travel.
Implementing change and active transport outcomes on complex and established networks is a challenge. This takes a dedicated team, such as ours, who understand the pressure points across each level of government.
